My Approach
Therapy does not only have to be for moments when someone’s reached crisis mode, needing diagnostic treatment, or seen as a last resort. Therapy is also for moments when you want to be preventative or simply have a space to just desahogarte or talk about the things that you need to. A space to heal without fear of judgment. A space where you can also learn what your authentic voice truly sounds like as you get to know yourself and your needs. My approach to therapy is geared toward helping you feel heard and empowered to make your own decisions, through various strategies and techniques.
Integrative Approach - involves a therapist selecting models and methods from across orientations to best suit a particular client and context. Pulling from techniques such as Expressive Arts, DBT, SFT, and more.
Person-Centered Approach - involves a therapist acting as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client with their process of self-discovery and healing by utilizing talk therapy. It is based on the belief that each of us has the power to find the best solutions for ourselves and the ability to make appropriate changes in our lives. It means that you and your therapist are a team.
Trauma-Informed Approach - invloves a therapist considering the whole person, and recognizing trauma and the impacts this has on a client. What this looks like is that you will never be forced or rushed to talk about or process your traumatic experiences, and the therapist recognizes that it is not necessary to discuss this in full detail in order for the client to heal and move forward. The therapist’s main goals is to not re-traumatize a client, to establish safety, observe a client during session, and teach client appropriate grounding techniques and regulation skills.
I utilize these creative and evidence-based techniques with our culture in mind.
